Employees Welfare facilities

NCL provides welfare facilities to its employees to keep their motivation levels high. Our company focuses on two aspects i.e. on improving the Quality of Work Life and Quality of Life of employees. The welfare facilities are provided to create congenial surroundings for personal, professional and social life of the employees for their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It enables betterment and growth of each and every individual of our NCL family.

Improving Quality of Work Life

NCL aims at providing the best facilities at workplace for improving the QWL for higher employee satisfaction/ engagement. Some of the best facilities are as below:-

Canteens: NCL runs 40 canteens in different Areas wherein hygienic and palatable food is served to our employees. These canteens are equipped with facilities like RO water purifier with water coolers, sufficient seating space, air conditioners, washrooms, etc. Out of these 41 canteens, 28 canteens are fully air-conditioned. Air-conditioning of rest of the canteens is under process.

Rest Shelter: Rest shelters are provided in each Area/Unit for our employees. There are 29 rest shelters out of which 08 are fully air-conditioned. These rest shelters have sufficient seating and resting space with proper cushioning for comfort. All these places are maintained in clean condition.

Model Toilets/Washrooms: Northern Coalfields Limited has separate male & female toilets at suitable places accessible at all times to all persons employed in the mines & establishments which are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.

Drinking Water: There is regular supply of water to all residential colonies through 18 MGD capacity Integrated Water Supply System (IWSS), Khadia. Additionally, Company has installed RO water purifier machines along with water coolers in office premises, canteens, rest shelters, clubs, stadiums, workshops, CHPs, site stores, etc., for employees.

Crèche:With a view to create favorable working condition for working parents, NCL has built 03 crèches located at NCL HQ, Nehru Shatabdi Chikitsalaya (NSC) and Nigahi Area. These crèches have various facilities required for childcare like separate washrooms, bedding, toys, swings, educational items, etc. Crèche facilities in other Areas of NCL are under construction.

Welfare Fortnight Competition: Every year Welfare Fortnight Competition is organized wherein the welfare amenities such as colony, canteen, rest shelters, washroom, and contractor labour camp, drinking water facilities etc. of all Areas / Units are inspected and hygienic conditions are assessed periodically by the committee duly constituted by HQ. The outstanding performers in different categories are awarded in the central function of Miner’s Day.

House Keeping Audit: In order to consistently improve housekeeping standards and to identify areas of improvement, NCL conducts Housekeeping Audits of all Area/Unit of NCL. This audit is conducted twice in a year and areas of improvement are identified for further upgradation. Intra-Unit competitions and housekeeping campaigns are also organized from time to time. The program is implemented in line with the concept of 5S.

Employee Counseling: Family counseling for employees is an ongoing activity in NCL. Employees having any personal or professional issues are extended counseling services to cope with the issues at workplace or in family for better Work-Life balance. It aims at tackling their problems and thus increasing employee’s efficiency and effectiveness.

Reward/Recognition: NCL recognizes and awards employees who work day and night for the company’s objective in order to motivate them for their efforts. Every quarter, best employees are awarded in each Area/Unit of NCL for their excellent performance in that quarter. They are for their performance at their home in front of their family members in order to make them & their family to feel proud.

NCL also felicitates best performing employees in various categories on different occasions like celebration of May Day, NCL Foundation Day, Independence Day or any other event organized in the year.

  • Women Empowerment: In order to make the work environment conducive for women employees, NCL provides various statutory and non-statutory facilities for women like maternity benefits, child care leave, setting up of Internal Complaints Committee for Sexual Harassment, etc. In addition to these, Company has taken up 15 initiatives which have been implemented in the year 2019-20. It includes yoga, sports, seminars, workshops, work life balance sessions, self awareness program, leadership development program etc. Individual programs such as birthday celebrations, “female employee of the month” recognitions, etc. were also arranged at all Areas/Units in every month.
  • NCL has also formed its WIPS (Women In Public Sector) forum of women employees which is fully functional during the year 2019-20. All the female employees enthusiastically enrolled to its membership.

  • Specially-abled employees: The Company provides required facilities to Person with disability like different software for the ease of visually challenged employees. It has barrier free accessibility to workplace as well to other utility places with the help of ramps, easily accessible washrooms, etc. Company gives preference to Person with Disability in their quarter allotment, transfer/posting, etc.
Improving Quality of Life

Employee care by improving quality of life is one of the priority areas of employee programme of the company. It has created excellent facilities in the residential areas for the overall well being of employees and the families.

Housing Facilities: NCL is committed to provide standard housing facilities to all its employees. Therefore, every Area/Unit of NCL has their own colonies for their employees with sufficient number of quarters, children parks, clubs, postal services, bank, shopping complex, etc. The quarters are in good condition and repair & maintenance work of these quarters are done on regular basis.

Educational Facilities: 10 deficit funded schools are operating at NCL for providing better education to employee’s children. Among these, there are 07 DAV Public Schools, 02 Central Schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas) and 01 Delhi Public School. NCL ensures all kind of modern facilities in these schools like Smart Boards in each class, CCTV Cameras, model toilets separately for boys & girls, Ramp, Auditorium, Computer Lab, Language Lab, well furnished science laboratories and Libraries etc. Atal Tinkering Lab is also established at the K.V School, Singrauli.

NCL also provides school buses for the transport facilities of NCL and Non-NCL wards to these schools, with minimal charges. 25% of the seats in the above schools have been earmarked for children of BPL family as required under the provisions of the Right to Education Act.

There are other schools like the Bina Intermediate College, DAV school (Block-B), Saraswati Shishu Mandirs affiliated with Vidya Bharati, Government schools (Primary, Junior high Schools and Inter Colleges) which are given grant-in-aids or other occasional infrastructure support by NCL.

There is a plan to begin National Service Scheme (NSS) & National Cadet Corps. (NCC) in all schools for which necessary steps are being undertaken.

Financial support given for higher education:

  • Reimbursement of Tuition & hostel fee: NCL provides financial support to wards of wage board employees by way of reimbursing tuition fees and hostel charges for Technical and Medical Education. In the year 2019-20, amount of Rs. 1,51,44,117/- were reimbursed to employees for their wards.
  • CIL Scholarship Scheme: The wards of employees who perform well and secure merit as per the norms in the respective exams (starting from class V) are provided scholarship at a particular rate for their further study. In the year 2019-20, an amount of Rs. 1,02,900/- were given to employees under the CIL Scholarship scheme.

Recreational Facilities: NCL also takes care of recreational activities of employees and their family members. NCL extends the facility of officer’s clubs, worker’s clubs, stadiums, children parks/gardens, gymnasiums, badminton courts, volleyball courts, table tennis courts, lawn tennis courts, swimming pool, Sports complex etc. for employees and their family members in its Areas/Units.

Athletics Academy: NCL has established an athletics academy to provide intense coaching in the field of athletics to nearby children. It has a residential coaching along with the free facility of food and their education. The ambition of running such academy is to make footprint in the sports arena of the country and win medals for the country in different international competitions like Olympics.

Other community facilities: There are 02 multipurpose building i.e., Kalyan Mandap, at Jayant Area and Amlohri Area of NCL. These buildings have been setup to facilitate employees for organizing any function like marriages and other community/family celebrations. These are equipped with sufficient no. of rooms, big halls, kitchen facility, lawn, washrooms etc.

Promotion of Sports and Game: With an objective of overall wellbeing of employees and their families and also to make a clear foot print at the national level and international levels, NCL promotes sports and games disproportionately. NCL has good sports infrastructure under which it has Stadiums, Play Grounds, Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Badminton Courts, Lawn Tennis Courts, Table Tennis Halls, Volleyball Courts and Sports Complex in its Areas/Units.

  • AAROHAN:The flagship mega summer camp for upcoming talent in sports and other areas, “Aarohan” (NCL Summer Camp) is organized every year. The camp includes training in various sports like cricket, athletics, football, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, kabaddi and this year various new events were also added like dance, instrumental & vocal, art & craft, photography, journalism and skating. Entry of candidates is completely free of cost and children below the age of 18 years can participate in the camp.
  • NCL organizes Inter-Area and Inter-Company sports competitions and 05 All India Memorial competitions for employees every year in order to develop sports culture amongst the employees.
  • Celebrations and Events: NCL organizes a number of public functions for celebrating auspicious days for integration of employees with national cause and Indian values & philosophy. Details of the events celebrated every year:-

    Employee Health: Health of the employees is one of the critical success factors for sustainable operation of the company. Similarly healthcare is also a thrust area due to dependency of the population on NCL as we are the main player in the region. Medical Discipline of Northern Coalfields Limited is providing a holistic healthcare to employees, their dependent family members, retired Employees (Executive & Non-Executive) with spouse, Local people residing in the vicinity and to the poor and needy people living below poverty line.

    The aim is to keep a healthy and productive work force for the company through preventive, primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare in some of the disciplines of medicine. In achieving this great task, Specialist Doctors, General Duty Medical officers, Paramedical staff, Nursing Staff, Technicians & non-medical staffs play a vital role.

    NCL has three (03) hospitals with total strength of 200 beds. NSC is the main hospital having bed strength of 150 and is centrally located in Jayant. The other 02 regional hospitals namely Central Hospital, Singrauli has a bed strength of 35 and Regional Hospital Bina- Krishnashila Hospital has 15 beds. Besides 3 hospital, there are local dispensaries in each of the 09 projects with an exception of Dudhichua which has two. All the dispensaries and hospitals have OPD facility and round the clock Emergency facility for the patients. Patients requiring consultations with Specialist or admission in hospitals are being referred to NSC, Jayant and Central Hospital, Singrauli. For emergency transportation to NSC, Jayant or Central Hospital, Singrauli facility of ambulance is available for employees and for their dependent family members.

    Rapid Medical Checkup Camps: Medical checkup camps are being organized in all Areas/Units of NCL in which life style diseases like BP, sugar, vision test, etc., of the identified critical employees are checked and accordingly they are prescribed for further course of action.

    Swachch Bharat Mission: NCL is very much committed for keeping its premises and surroundings areas neat & clean. In line with the Nation’s vision for a Swachch Bharat, the Company played a vital role in bringing up the Index of Singrauli and Sonebhadra district.

    Swachchta is an ongoing process in NCL and for this various measures like, door to door collection of garbage, cleaning of roads & road sides, Drain Cleaning, office kaizen, Swachch Vidyalaya Abhiyan, Swachch hospital/dispensary, tree Plantation, cleaning of over head tanks etc. are being taken.

    NCL also plays a key role to make aware and motivate its employees as well as local public by various innovative campaigning activities like Swachchta Rath, Swachchta Rallies, Nukkad Nataks, distribution of plants & Swachchta Kits, banners, posters, Wall Paintings, Swachchta Competitions, Shramdaan, Swachchta Exhibitions, identification & recognition of Swachchta Champions, Swachchta Idols, Swachchta Doots etc. Initiatives like Shramdaan for plastic waste collection, Plastic Muktidhaam for collection of plastic and distribution of jute/cloth bag were undertaken throughout company.
